Personal training or personal fitness training is not a recognised profession in Switzerland, nor is the service offered subject to transparent quality standards for the customer.

This results in:

  • Lack of clarity as to what a personal trainer actually is and what services they provide
  • Significant differences in the quality of the service provided based on different levels of training (anyone can offer personal training sessions in Switzerland)
  • Significant price differences for the consumer

Organisation

The Swiss Federation of Personal Trainers (SPTF) is a non-profit organisation within the meaning of Articles 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code. It is specifically committed to the quality and promotion of Personal Training in Switzerland. It was founded in 2007. The SPTF’s aim is to guarantee quality by means of a quality label, in order to create transparency in the market for personal trainers in Switzerland. The aim is to achieve targeted collaboration with health insurers, partner companies and fitness centres, and to promote and support personal trainers in Switzerland. In addition, we represent the common interests of personal trainers registered with the association to the outside world.

Aims of the SPTF-SPTV

  • Quality assurance: positioning personal training as a recognised profession in Switzerland, by establishing a quality label for personal trainers and the resulting transparency for customers.
  • Knowledge platform: promotion and support for personal trainers and fitness centres affiliated to the federation in Switzerland.

  • Promotion of personal training in Switzerland: Representation of personal trainers vis-à-vis other organisations in the market and economy, through targeted cooperation with fitness centres, associations, health insurance companies, certifiers and the umbrella organisation OdA Bewegung und Gesundheit.
